The poultry sector is constantly developing, and the Cage-Free System has arrived on the market bringing benefits to animal welfare and the sustainability of egg production. It's a system focused on comfort, safety, hygiene, and quality in raising chickens.

Kilbra, recognized as a leader in poultry engineering, stands out in its Cage-Free System with technologies designed to offer modern management, such as the Automatic Nest and the Avance System.

Continue reading to learn about the importance of this system, its benefits, and how Kilbra can help you with this type of farming.

What is the Cage-Free System?

The Cage-Free System is a model for raising free-range laying hens, characterized by being cage-free, providing animal welfare and offering positive results in egg quality.

This system, which has been growing worldwide and gaining ground in Brazil, offers a comfortable, hygienic, and safe environment for the birds, allowing them to develop freely in sheds and express their natural behaviors, which contributes to the production of higher quality eggs.

The facility is installed in a covered space, a shed, which allows for the free movement of the birds, with ventilation, and strategically positioned drinkers and feeders to provide easy access.

The nests are communal, distributed among soft materials such as straw, and the diet of the hens in the Cage-Free System is balanced, guaranteeing certification and high quality.

Furthermore, it is already a predominant practice in Europe, Australia, and the United States, and it is gaining ground in Brazil, where several companies have committed to its implementation.

The quality standards were established by Humane Farm Animal Care, an international institution represented in Brazil by the Certified Humane Institute, which works in the certification of products of animal origin. The certifications are based on animal welfare, and the seal ensures cage-free farming, adequate diets, humane handling, ethical practices, and higher quality.

What are the main benefits of a cage-free system?

High animal welfare

Reducing stress in the animal

Persistence in posture

Higher nutritional and physical quality of the eggs compared to eggs from backyard poultry.

Food safety and health

Better environment, with comfort, safety, ventilation and hygiene

Brand value

Efficient handling with ergonomics

· Sustainability

Increased productivity compared to family-based poultry farming

Kilbra offers two models designed with a Cage-Free System, ideal for poultry farms, which provide structures with technology and components that facilitate production, care, and maintenance. These are: the KM327 Automatic Nest System and the Avance System.

KM327 Automatic Nesting System

The Automatic Nest is a cage-free system that features automation, ensuring that eggs roll into a protected area where they are collected on a conveyor belt. This ensures greater convenience, quality, and increased productivity.

This model is designed with galvanized steel, providing greater durability, and features mats made of a special material for greater comfort for the birds and easy cleaning. It also includes egg conveyor belts with sensor control and speed control, which prevent egg accumulation.

It also features equipment such as a feeding system with a simple adjustment plate, as well as a ventilation system, drive system, misting system, feed distribution system, and more.

Advance System

The Avance System is a cage-free system that offers a safe and controlled environment with restricted and well-planned circulation, ensuring greater practicality, quality, and increased productivity.

One of its main distinguishing features is the ample space for chickens to roam, scratch, and perch, respecting animal welfare. It has complete control over temperature, ventilation, and lighting, ensuring thermal comfort and appropriate photoperiods for the birds' development and increased production.

Furthermore, it offers reduced labor, ease of cleaning and maintenance, and high durability. It prevents waste and damage to eggs, while also facilitating continuous access for the birds to feed and water, which are strategically distributed.

It has specific zones for different needs, such as comfortable private spaces for laying hens, perches and platforms at different height levels, which encourage movement and natural behavior, and a resting area. It also has a separate area for droppings, contributing to the hygiene and health of the flock.

Kilbra operates in the national and international poultry sector, with a presence in over 30 countries and contributing to the production of more than 120 million eggs per day worldwide through its equipment.
